Thermos
What We Use at CI
Closest to a perfect Gold Standard formula available in the thermos category. The TKPro is the CI highest recommendation.
Materials: Electropolished 18/8 food-grade stainless steel interior, 100% plastic-free construction with stainless steel and silicone components throughout. The exterior carries Klean Kanteen's Klean Coat™ powder finish. Klean Kanteen uses GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals to evaluate the ingredients in their finish. Ingredients that did not meet their high standards for human and environmental contact were eliminated.
Why it qualifies: Bare electropolished 18/8 stainless interior with zero coatings — the strongest possible CI interior position. 100% plastic-free construction means no polymer anywhere near the liquid. Stainless steel lid with food-grade silicone gasket only. BPA, phthalate, and lead free. Exterior powder coat assessed via GreenScreen. Full material transparency. No Prop 65 warning. Double-wall vacuum insulation with up to 38 hours heat retention.
Minor flags: Manufactured in China, though under Klean Kanteen's own monitored supply chain. Silicone gasket in lid (acceptable food-grade silicone — minor flag only for those with sensitivities).
Other CI-Approved Hair Conditioners
Strong secondary recommendation particularly for large-volume use (available up to 2 qt). The minor lid material disclosure gap keeps it from the top slot.
Materials: BPA-free 18/8 stainless steel construction throughout. Interior is bare stainless steel with no applied coating. Lid doubles as an insulated drinking cup. Powder-coated exterior in hammertone finish.
Why it qualifies: Bare 18/8 stainless steel interior — no coating, no lining. Full BPA-free certification. No interior polymer layers. Double-wall vacuum insulation rated for up to 24 hours. Wide-mouth design makes the interior fully accessible for thorough cleaning, which is a CI practical requirement. More than a century of documented safety track record. Lid/cup is stainless steel with polymer stopper only for sealing.
Minor flags: The stopper/gasket inside the lid contains rubber and polymer sealing material — material specification is not fully disclosed on the product listing. Exterior powder coat has not been independently tested or GreenScreen-assessed, unlike Klean Kanteen. Heavier and bulkier than other options. Not entirely plastic-free at the lid assembly.
Recommended particularly for users who want an alternative to the TKPro form factor.
Materials: 18/8 food-grade stainless steel interior, uncoated. Double-wall vacuum insulation. Stainless steel body. Lid assembly uses a stainless steel collar with a minimal polypropylene press-seal component. BPA-free confirmed.
Why it qualifies: Bare 18/8 stainless interior with no coating. Full BPA-free construction. Double-wall vacuum insulation with strong heat retention performance (comparable to Stanley in independent testing). MiiR discloses its materials openly and has a track record of transparency uncommon in the category. The lid contact surface is stainless steel rather than direct plastic-to-mouth contact. No Prop 65 warning on current production. Certified B Corp — supply chain and material accountability standards are higher than industry average.
Minor flags: Polypropylene component in lid seal assembly — disclosed and food-grade PP, but present. Not fully plastic-free at the lid. Exterior coating details less fully documented than Klean Kanteen. Smaller brand with less third-party independent testing than Klean Kanteen or Stanley.
