What We Use at CI
NOTE: This is the CI Gold Standard winner with the highest confidence of any flatware brand available to US consumers, for one reason that cannot be matched: Liberty Tabletop is the only flatware manufacturer in the United States, operating out of Sherrill, New York. Every piece is 18/10 stainless steel sourced from US steel suppliers, manufactured domestically under US regulatory oversight, and hand-inspected before leaving the factory. Grade accuracy is not a question — there is no import labeling ambiguity, no supply chain opacity, and no uncertainty about what grade of steel is in the product.
NOTE: Choose plain, undecorated handle patterns. Liberty Tabletop offers over 40 patterns; the cleanest CI choices are their simplest designs — Annapolis, Betsy Ross, Patriot, Classic Rim, and similar minimal-handle patterns. Avoid any patterns with decorative colorants applied to handle surfaces. The Satin America and American Industrial brushed patterns are excellent clean choices.
Other CI-Approved Hair Conditioners
NOTE: WMF is a German manufacturer operating since 1853. Cromargan is their registered brand name for their proprietary 18/10 stainless steel: 72% steel, 18% chromium, 10% nickel — explicitly published in their specifications. Their flatware knives are Monobloc construction — forged from a single piece of stainless blade steel and hardened as a whole, eliminating the hollow handle joint and adhesive concern entirely. This is the cleanest possible knife construction: no join, no binder, no adhesive.

NOTE: The brand has a lifetime warranty on the Bellasera line and a documented track record of consistent 18/10 grade quality.
NOTE: Choose polished or satin finishes. Plain patterns only.
NOTE: The Bellasera is manufactured in China. This is the primary CI flag for this product. Per CI Section 8, Chinese-origin flatware labeled 18/10 requires either a documented brand track record of grade accuracy or independent grade verification. ZWILLING's track record is strong — they are a known, long-established European brand with rigorous quality standards applied to their Chinese manufacturing operations, and the Bellasera has been independently reviewed and confirmed for grade accuracy by multiple flatware industry sources. The flag is noted, not a disqualifier, for a brand with this level of established market history. However, if absolute maximum grade confidence is required, Liberty Tabletop or WMF are the stronger choices.
Not the Gold Standard
NOTE: Oneida is a US brand with a long track record that sources manufacturing from multiple countries. Their Moda line is explicitly labeled 18/10, polished, fully dishwasher-safe, and confirmed plain with no handle colorants or decorative coatings. Mamavation's flatware research in their 2022–2023 non-toxic flatware guide included Oneida 18/10 lines among their vetted recommendations, specifically noting their grade labeling accuracy and absence of problematic surface treatments.
NOTE: Avoid Oneida's plated, colored, or "silverplate" lines — only solid 18/10 lines qualify.
