Toothpaste
What We Use at CI
NOTE: Davids uses Fluidinova NanoXIM Nano Hydroxyapatite, considered to be the highest quality and most effective nano hydroxyapatite material available, with rod-shaped particles — the only form approved for oral care products by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety and proven most effective for remineralizing enamel and occluding dentin tubules. Disclosing the specific HA supplier by name is rare and meaningful — it directly addresses the heavy metals concern by pointing to a named, independently verified source.
NOTE: Sodium cocoyl glutamate is an amino acid-derived surfactant from coconut oil and glutamic acid, used here for texture rather than foaming. It is dramatically cleaner than SLS or sodium lauroyl sarcosinate — EWG rates it a 1, the lowest concern score — but it is still a processed compound rather than a whole-food ingredient. Carrageenan is seaweed-derived and food-grade but carries the CI flag established in the framework. Both are minor relative to any other HA toothpaste reviewed.
NOTE: Xylitol — Explicitly and specifically labeled as birch derived. This is one of the few commercial toothpastes that discloses xylitol source on the label.
NOTE: Packaging — recyclable metal aluminum tube, 98% USA origin ingredients, proudly made in USA. The metal tube is the Gold Standard packaging for toothpaste and one of the most distinctive features of the Davids product line. No plastic-tube contact with the formula.
NOTE: EWG Verified — PASS. This is the Environmental Working Group's strictest independent certification standard for ingredient safety and transparency.
NOTE: Third-party testing — Via third-party lab testing, Davids Hydroxi outperformed conventional sensitive toothpaste and competing hydroxyapatite toothpastes in remineralizing enamel and fully occluding dentin tubules after five days of brushing.
Other CI-Approved Toothbrushes
NOTE: No hydroxyapatite — this is the most significant gap relative to the Gold Standard. The CI framework explicitly requires at least one clean remineralizing active, with hydroxyapatite strongly preferred. Calcium carbonate and kaolin provide gentle physical abrasion and contribute calcium minerals, and xylitol provides meaningful anti-cavity protection by inhibiting S. mutans, but neither delivers the targeted enamel regeneration that nano-HA produces. This formula is a complete daily oral care paste in the traditional sense but is not a modern remineralizing paste in the HA sense.
NOTE: Xylitol source — not disclosed as birch on the label. Minor transparency flag.
NOTE: Sodium carrageenan — the same CI flag present in Davids. Here it is food-grade and seaweed-derived. Gum cellulose as a co-thickener is a cleaner plant fiber alternative to other binders.
NOTE: The Tooth & Gums Essentials toothpaste is the ideal pairing with the Tooth & Gums Tonic mouthwash rather than a standalone product. Using both together gives you the herbal antimicrobial and gum-protective benefits in paste and rinse format from a brand with nearly thirty years of consistent natural oral care formulation. If you want the complete oral care system, this is the brand to choose.
