What We Use at CI
NOTE: This is the only wipe identified in this search that meets every CI Gold Standard requirement simultaneously — GOTS-certified organic cotton substrate, clean CI-acceptable preservative system, published independent PFAS non-detect testing, full ingredient disclosure, no MI/MCI/parabens/formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, and 100% compostability.
NOTE: Substrate: All cotton used for Natracare products is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), certified by Control Union, with the Soil Association certifying Natracare wipes specifically. 100% organic cotton, no synthetic fiber, no polyester, no polypropylene. Fully compostable and biodegradable.
NOTE: Solution: Aqua, vegetable glycerin, organic rose extracts (Rosa gallica and Rosa damascena), organic chamomile extract, organic calendula extract, sodium chloride, polyglyceryl-10-laurate (plant-derived mild emulsifier), levulinic acid + sodium levulinate (natural fermentation-derived preservative system), potassium sorbate, sodium phytate (natural chelator), maltodextrin, citric acid, sodium benzoate, sorbic acid. Free from alcohol, parabens, SLS, MIT, and other types of formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. pH balanced.
NOTE: PFAS: Natracare baby wipes have been independently tested to EN 17681-2:2022, ISO 23702-1:2023 and EN 17681-1:2025 standards, analysed against 175 types of PFAS. The result: no PFAS detected. This published testing covers the Natracare wipe line including independent 175-PFAS panel non-detect confirmation.
NOTE: Fragrance: Organic essential oils of chamomile, French rose, and calendula at low concentration from disclosed botanical sources — fully aligned with the CI framework's standard for adult intimate wipes (essential oils at disclosed low concentrations from named botanical sources are CI Acceptable for adult use).
NOTE: Not suitable for: Infant use — the essential oils, while organic and at low concentration, are a CI flag for infant skin per the framework's requirement that infant wipes be unscented with no essential oils of any type.

NOTE: The highest tier achievable with a lyocell substrate (which cannot reach GOTS Gold Standard, as GOTS certification is not available for lyocell of any origin). However, Kudos is the most completely documented wipe found in this search for the unscented/infant application: EWG Verified solution with no CI-disqualifying ingredients, OEKO-TEX Class I substrate, TÜV Austria full biodegradability certification, US-made, mainstream retail availability.

NOTE: Unscented: Confirmed — no fragrance, no essential oils of any type. This is the key advantage over Natracare Baby Wipes for infant use. Kudos is safe for infant use under the CI framework's most restrictive infant standard.
NOTE: WaterWipes occupies a unique position in this framework: it has by far the simplest solution chemistry of any wipe at consumer retail — effectively water with two plant extracts — but carries two flags that prevent full Gold Standard designation. Widest retail availability of any option on this list.
NOTE: Flag 1 — BAC trace in grapefruit seed extract: WaterWipes discloses trace amounts of benzalkonium chloride (BAC) present as a contaminant of the grapefruit seed extract at approximately 0.002% — approximately 50 times below the effective antimicrobial threshold concentration. This is disclosed transparently on the packaging and is not an intentionally added ingredient — it is a trace contaminant of the botanical extract. The CI framework lists BAC as a disqualifier for personal care wipes when used as an intentional antimicrobial agent. At 0.002% as an incidental extract contaminant, the CI position is a flag rather than a hard disqualifier — but it prevents full Gold Standard designation. WaterWipes is approved by the National Eczema Association, Eczema Society of Canada, and Skin Health Alliance at this trace level.
NOTE: Flag 2 — Viscose substrate: WaterWipes wipes are made from regenerated cellulose — viscose — not GOTS-certified organic cotton. Viscose is CI Acceptable per the framework (biodegradable, no synthetic microplastics) but is not Gold Standard. WaterWipes has removed the polyester previously in their formula; the current substrate is plant-derived and biodegradable. OEKO-TEX certification status for the substrate has not been confirmed in this search — direct brand inquiry is recommended.
NOTE: Solution: Water (Aqua) 99.9%, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Sapindus Trifoliatus (Soapberry) Fruit Extract. Purified water as the dominant component. No MI, no MCI, no parabens, no formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, no synthetic fragrance, no propylene glycol, no PEG compounds. The simplest wipe solution profile in this category.
