Toothbrush

If a brand uses any of the following phrases without full material disclosure, treat it as a red flag:

  • Natural bristles without specifying the exact material

  • Plant-based bristles without naming the polymer

  • Biodegradable without third-party verification

  • Eco-friendly or sustainable without specifying what that means

  • BPA-free as the headline claim, which only tells you one chemical was removed from a still-synthetic plastic bristle

What We Use at CI

NOTE: The horsehair version is softer, less abrasive on enamel and gums. If you have normal or healthy gums, the boar version is also fully acceptable and slightly firmer for those who prefer a deeper clean.

NOTE: Some bristles may come loose as the bamboo adjusts to humidity levels, expanding in humid air and contracting when dry. This is a known tradeoff of a fully natural product. Run warm water over the bristles before first use to clear any loose ones.

Other CI-Approved Toothbrushes

NOTE: It is sealed on the bottom with a non-toxic paint, which helps it dry faster and resist mold. The paint is at the base of the handle, not in contact with your mouth, and the brand states it is non-toxic — but the exact paint composition is not disclosed. This is the one flag.

NOTE: Erda states no adhesives but does not specify the exact attachment method publicly the way Gaia Guy and PRIMALS do. This is worth verifying directly with the brand before purchasing.

NOTE: Erda discloses bristle material and the absence of key toxins clearly, but does not provide the same depth of sourcing and attachment method disclosure as Gaia Guy.
